Future Fears seemed to have appeared out of nowhere almost fully formed. Perhaps a name change - unless their future fears are fears for a bright future!

Greg Pearle: A Renowned Irish Singer-Songwriter

Hailing from Dublin and currently based in Ballina, Co Mayo, Greg Pearle stands as a distinguished figure in Ireland's music scene. A luminary who has dedicated his life to music, Pearle's performances resonate with a rare, captivating energy that leaves an indelible mark on all who have the privilege of experiencing them.

His musical journey spans a lifetime, with each note and lyric a testament to his unwavering passion and talent. Pearle's live performances are nothing short of extraordinary, characterized by a distinctive vocal timbre and meticulously crafted tracks that linger in the hearts of his audience.

It is a testament to his artistry that he holds the remarkable accolade of inspiring the legendary Rock 'n' Roll icon, John Illsley, out of retirement. Their collaboration culminated in the acclaimed album "Beautiful You," a harmonious blend of Pearle's evocative melodies and Illsley's seasoned expertise.

Greg Pearle stands as a hidden gem within Ireland's rich musical tapestry, a maestro whose music transcends boundaries and leaves an indelible imprint on all who have the pleasure of listening.

The Legendary Encounter: John Illsley and the Irish Rock Group Cunla

In the picturesque countryside of rural Hampshire, a legendary figure found solace away from the roaring crowds and electrifying stages of his past. John Illsley, renowned as the bass player of the iconic Dire Straits, had bid adieu to the music world, seeking refuge in the tranquility of Hampshire's rolling hills to pursue his newfound passion for painting.

Amidst the quaint charm of local pubs, "The East End Arms" and "The George Hotel" on the Isle of Wight, Illsley unveiled his artistic prowess to the world, his vibrant canvases telling tales of a life richly lived.

However, fate had other plans for this rock 'n' roll luminary. It was a March evening in 2005 when the music found its way back to John Illsley in the most unexpected of places—a cozy pub in Leicestershire. Little did he know, this evening would mark the beginning of an epic musical journey.

Enter Greg and his band, Cunla, a spirited Irish rock group whose music seemed to echo the very soul of the Emerald Isle. As Illsley's ears caught the first notes resonating from the stage, something stirred within him—a nostalgic yearning for the days of raw, unbridled energy that defined his Dire Straits era.

In a moment of spontaneous combustion, John Illsley joined Cunla on stage, the bass reverberating with the familiar strains of Dire Straits classics. For Illsley, this was more than just a performance—it was a resurrection of passion, a rekindling of the fire that had lain dormant for over a decade.

Recalling that unforgettable night, Illsley reminisces with a twinkle in his eye, "I was asked to play a few tunes with them. I liked their attitude and the fact that despite the large quantities of Guinness that had been consumed, they could all play very well."

And so, amidst the warmth of the pub's flickering lights and the thunderous applause of awestruck patrons, John Illsley found himself reborn on stage once more. The chemistry between Illsley and Cunla was electric, a fusion of veteran prowess and youthful exuberance that left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to witness it.

From that moment on, the world of music knew no bounds for John Illsley and Greg Pearle. Their chance encounter in a Leicestershire pub would pave the way for a musical partnership that transcended time and boundaries, culminating in the creation of the acclaimed album "Beautiful You."

It was a meeting of legends, a collision of worlds, and a celebration of the timeless magic of music. The story of John Illsley and Cunla is not just a tale of two artists—it is a symphony of destiny, woven with threads of passion, inspiration, and the unyielding spirit of rock 'n' roll.

Exhibition

To coincide with an exhibition of his art in Les Baux de Provence, John was asked to perform some Dire Straits songs.

John Recalled "The Mayor of the town asked me and it’s not done in France to refuse the Mayor ". "I asked Cunla if they could learn some Dire Straits songs and it turned out that Greg was a big fan and knew a lot of the songs already”.

John and Cunla played at the Festival des Alpilles, performing to 1300 people in the Cathedral D’Image in Les Baux de Provence. The show was recorded and John was “pleasantly surprised” by the results. “I initially wanted the band to have a record of their French experience but several people heard it and encouraged us to release it.”

Friendship & Album

John and Greg became friends and John discovered that Greg was a very talented songwriter. “We spent some time knocking his songs into shape then began recording them in Mark Knopfler’s fabulous studio in Hammersmith". "Wait ’till you hear them". "Greg writes brilliant songs and has an amazing voice.”

Greg Pearle will always be remembered for the man who inspired John to find excitement in recording and playing live again. He takes his mark from greats such as Tom Waits, Van Morrison and Chris Rea, Pearle’s gravelly tones are infused with emotion from a well-traveled life.

Their collaborated album didn't get the the accolades it deserved but Greg has absolutely no regrets . Greg Recalls " To work and record an album with one of the greats was an experience I will cherish forever ".

It has been a busy year for Red Empire so far. Their debut album, which has captured the band’s trademark well-crafted melodic sound, was released online and in stores in February and has received a warm reception ahead of their Irish tour this July. The band led up to the album release with a number of EP releases including ‘Small Mercies’ and 'The Truth of You'. As a result of these releases Red Empire were chosen as the nationwide UTV Radio Group's 'Select Irish Artist of the month'. In addition to this the lads were chosen as 98FM's 'Home Grown Heroes' and DCFM's 'Tune of the week'. Red Empire were also earmarked for success on RTÉ Radio 1's 'The John Murray Show' (where they played a live session as well as being play-listed by RTÉ Radio) and Today FM's 'The Mix-Up'. Red Empire also appeared on national television performing live on RTÉ's 'The Saturday Night Show' and 'Two Tube' and TG4's 'Róisín'. During some of these TV performances the band played their single 'Deliver Me' which they have also translated into Japanese and released under the title, 'Michibiki'.

Red Empire's music videos for "Small Mercies" and "The Truth of You" have each won the 'Best Music Video' award at "The Dublin International Film & Music Awards" and "The Underground Cinema Awards" respectively. The band pride themselves on the strong impact of their videos and they enjoy a great artistic relationship with their visual collaborator, November Seven Films.

Red Empire’s song, ‘Denial’ has been chosen to be included in director, Graham Cantwell’s film, ‘The Callback Queen’ and other songs have been used in advertisements for the V.E.C and the Guinness Pro 12. It would appear that Red Empire’s musical stock is rising fast.

Throughout the last few years the band, who hail from all over Dublin and Athlone, have continued to play their increasingly well-known high-intensity live gigs all over Ireland and have gone down a treat at festivals such as Electric Picnic, The Westport Festival of Music and Arts, Fortstock and The Coors Light Weekender in Cork. Red Empire also toured Germany during and enjoyed a very warm response from German audiences. Indieweek.com described seeing the lads play live as a “kick-ass, very energetic live show.” With an ever-growing fan base and a bourgeoning roster of gigs throughout Ireland Red Empire look set for bigger and better things in 2016. Having already played numerous times in venues like the Olympia Theater, Vicar St, the INEC in Kerry and the Cork Opera House amongst many others right throughout the country the band have proven their worth on the big stage. With the lads touted by Musicscene.ie as “serious contenders for some well-deserved attention” and “destined for a bigger and brighter future” many commentators have noted that the Red Empire journey is only beginning.

Red Empire have also received the endorsement of music legend  John Hartmann "A veteran music agent, personal manager and record executive, John has provided career direction for such luminaries as Chad & Jeremy, Sonny & Cher, Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Canned Heat, Eagles, Peter, Paul & Mary, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne, America, Poco, and many others" )

"Red Empire have used their different musical influences and backgrounds to make a sound that is instantly recognizable when heard.” - Cheers Magazine

“Infectious pop choruses that wouldn’t sound out of place on commercial radio...stuck in your head after the first listen.” – Goldenplec.com

Shane Kenny is a Singer/Songwriter from Wexford, Ireland who has just released his 3rd album shortly titled 'The Great Unknown' which is a follow up to 2014's 'Eight Miles Out' and 'Lost in the madness of crowds' from 2009.

“Kenny's songs invoke everyday images of hope, love and loss and within the soaring melodies, at times driving guitar riffs, and intricate arrangements there are some stark messages to be heard” - New Ross Echo – June 2013

It may be hard to pinpoint an artist that his music sits comfortably with regards to the style but Shane has been influenced by artists including Tom Petty, Warren Zevon and Bruce Springsteen and some songs have had comparisons with Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi and also Kiss to name but a few.

Since releasing his debut album, Shane has appeared as a support act to such artists as diverse as The Pat Mcmanus Band, Dave Sharp (The Alarm), The Mulligan Brothers, Mick Flannery, Mundy, Duke special, Jerry Fish, The Hot Sprockets, The 4 of Us, The Original Rudeboys, The Cabin Collective, Lazek, Tumbling Bones Southern Tenant Folk Union, The Niall Toner Band, Declan O'Rourke, John Spillane, The Irish Tenors among others.

Louise Crossan  was born and raised in the beautiful sea-side town of Buncrana, Co. Donegal.

As a young child She was always singing and at the age of 7 her first musical instrument was a small organ/keyboard on which She used to play songs by ear. She joined the Buncrana Youth Accordion Band shortly after and learned how to play the Button-Key Accordion.

At age 14 She began piano lessons with Ray Mc Ginley and achieved up to Grade 8.

She Began working at 15 and saved hard for her first Yamaha guitar, which she still has and plays to this day.

By 17 She was gigging in local bars and hotels and had also started song-writing.  She entered song contests throughout Ireland with her original material and was quite successful.

Wanting to further her music career,  She began taking proper vocal lessons with Angela Liston and received her teachers diploma for singing. At this time she won a singing scholarship to study in Belfast.  She also returned to education, doing a Performing Arts Diploma in Derry which gave her a great insight on how everything worked behind the scenes.

She then left for San Francisco in 1997 where she remained for 13 years. This proved to be the best move of her life.

She had her own band for 10 years and they played extensively throughout the San Francisco Bay Area at Weddings, Dinner Dances, Corporate gigs and house parties. There was a huge Irish connection there at the time so the band were busy every weekend usually doing 2 to 4 gigs a week. She also picked up a lot of great tips from her fellow musicians and learned that you can achieve what you really want by hard work and perseverance.

Upon returning to Ireland in 2009 with 2 small boys in tow she embraced motherhood for a while but it wasn't long before she got restless. She decided to go back to Magee University in Derry to do her degree in Music and she graduated with honours in 2013.

But there was one thing missing, She wasn't singing as much as she wanted. So she picked up the guitar one day and started back into her song-writing and it just started to flow. Song after song came out. Although she had recorded before, this felt different, more mature maybe? It was then that She decided to make an album and has never looked back since.

Her album BORN was launched in the Gateway Hotel, Buncrana on Dec 21st 2017 to a fantastic audience of family, friends and fellow musicians. The album was in part a personal journey for her and the lyrics tell the stories in the songsBorn, Blue Shadow, The Little Boy and Full Moon.

Although the album is in the early stages of it's release, She has been named "Artist of the week" on 2 different radio shows, namely The Acoustic Yard Show with David Dee Moore, and Shannonside with Charlie Mc Gettigan, while also getting airplay on her own local radio station Highland Radio.

She is now in the process of working on her second album and loved being in the recording studio. It felt like she was finally at home!
